Why it is important to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and what you must do to move your PreSonus products over.

Published January 30, 2020

Windows 7 Support was ended as of January 14, 2020.  Microsoft will no longer be supporting this operating system with any updates or development.  When there are no longer any security updates available for an operating system, hackers on the web can then find holes in the operating system that can be exploited to run malicious code on your system.  After a few months, it will be common knowledge on the "Dark Web" as to how to hack Windows 7.  Once that happens, people will write scripts that crawl the internet looking for IP addresses that are still running Windows 7.  They can then execute malicious code that logs your keystrokes to gather passwords, hack your email, steal your credit card information, or possibly steal your identity entirely.  It is also possible that bugs that deal with audio latency or functionality of drivers will not be addressed going forward.  For these reasons, PreSonus recommends upgrading to Windows 10.

Once you have upgraded to Windows 10, it may be necessary to re-install your PreSonus software.  You can download the installers from within your my.presonus.com account under My Products>Software.  Here is a link to the getting started section for Studio One and Notion, respectively...

PLEASE NOTE: For Studio One, you may need to log into your my.presonus.com account and go to My Products>Software>Studio One 4.  You can click the link to "manage activations" and remove any previous activations prior to your upgrade.  Make sure that they are activations for machines that are no longer in use.  For Notion 4, 5, and 6, it is not possible to manage activations.  Simply submit a support ticket if there are any problems.

If you are working with PreSonus hardware, it may be necessary to re-install/install any drivers for your device.  Here is a link to the PreSonus Downloads page where you can locate the latest driver for your hardware device.
