StudioLive Series III - How to setup my StudioLive for Streaming Online (USB)

Updated 11/20/2020

Before continuing you will need to be sure you are using the latest Universal Control and Firmware for your StudioLive:

StudioLive Series III Console - Firmware Update

StudioLive Series III Rack mixer - Firmware Update

Universal Control can be downloaded here:

First, it's important to note a main functional difference between Recording software (DAWs) and Live-Streaming software:

Most Streaming Software will only accept two (2) USB channels for their Input to the feed or Live-Stream.

More specifically, Streaming software will only accept USB Send 1 and USB Send 2 (no exceptions without 3rd-party rerouting software) from the StudioLive or other USB Interfaces, mixers, etc.

Usually USB sends/routing are defaulted to be 1-to-1.

Meaning, usually USB Send 1 and USB Send 2 are assigned to Input Channel 1 and 2 by default.

With Streaming, you will need to rearrange USB Send 1 and USB Send 2 to be the OUTPUT pair of Channels to which you will be mixing the feed/live-stream.

This Stream mix can be separate from the Main L/R output using a pair of Aux mixes OR can be arranged to feed the Main L/R mix verbatim.

To Assign/choose your Main or Aux pair to USB Send 1/2 for Streams/Broadcasting:

StudioLive Series III Console-

  • Press [HOME]
  • Press "Audio Routing"
  • Press "Digital Patching"
  • Press "USB Sends"
  • In the USB Sends menu, Assign USB 1 and USB 2 to your desired Output pair.
    • (In our example we are Broadcasting Mix 15+16)

In the above screenshot, you'll see that we've assigned Mix 15 and Mix 16 to USB Send 1/2.

You can assign any Outputs here that you wish. With your StudioLive chosen as your Audio Device for your Broadcasting software (OBS for example), you'll see input into the program from the output (post-fader) assigned to USB Sends 1 and 2.

StudioLive Series III Rackmixer-

  • Login to your Mixer with Universal Control (or UC-Surface)
  • Go into the Mixer's settings by clicking the gear in the top-right corner.
  • Click the "Digital Patching" Tab
  • Click on the "USB Sends" Tab
  • In the USB Sends menu, Assign USB 1 and USB 2 to your desired Output pair.
    • (In our example we are Broadcasting Mix 15+16)

This screenshot shows the default configuration for USB Send 1/2.

Move USB1 and USB2 to the right in the grid and assign them to the output of your choice. (See below)

We again used Aux Mix 15/16 for our setup as an example.

As mentioned in the screenshot, if you would like to Stream/Broadcast your Main Mix outputs, assign USB1/2 to "Main L" and "Main R"

USB Send assignments are how your computer interprets channels from the StudioLive globally.

By rearranging USB Send 1/2 to Mix 15/16, when recording in a DAW (such as StudioOne) Tracks 1 and 2 are no longer receiving audio from Inputs 1/2 of the Console and instead would record/hear Mix 15/16 as assigned.
