T8: Distorted audio


If you are hearing distortion, the problem is probably caused by sending too “hot” (loud) of a signal to the T8’s input, which overdrives the input stage of the built-in power amplifier, causing amplifier distortion. Another possibility is that the Temblor T8’s low-pass filter is set incorrectly, allowing unwanted frequencies to go to the sub-woofer. The variable (50 to 130 Hz) low-pass filter lets you dial in the Temblor T8 to pair perfectly with your full-range system.

You can solve both problems by following the instructions in Temblor T8 manual Section 3.2: Level Calibration. This section provides a simple procedure for matching the levels of your full-range speakers with the sub-woofer, including setting the low-pass filter. Once you have matched the levels of your full-range monitors and T8, don’t use their volume controls to adjust the overall level; instead, adjust the volume on your source audio device (computer, iPad, TV, etc.), reducing the source signal until the sound is no longer distorted. This will ensure that your speaker levels remain matched.
