What utility should I use to format my SD Card?

Updated Dec 9, 2020

NOTE: Due to the nature of flash media, a card that has been written to and then had data deleted may not perform at optimum levels. For best possible performance, we recommend performing a full format using the SDcard.org formatting utility.

We require using the utility provided by the SD Card Association. There are installers for Mac and PC available from their site:

SD Card Formatter

Using this utility is the only way to ensure that your SD Card will be formatted for optimum multi-track recording. Using built-in OS formatting tools in Windows or OS X may work, but they will not format the flash memory in such a way that optimizes write efficiency.

NOTE: This update will take approximately 30 minutes and should be done before any recording session that will record all 34 tracks onto the SD Card at once.

On Windows Systems

Launch the program and select Overwrite Format as shown below. Then Press "Format" in the right corner.

On Mac Systems

Launch the program and select Overwrite Format as shown below. Then Press "Format" in the right corner.
