Due to a compatibility issue with certain Intel/Apple Silicon Chipset USB Controllers, PreSonus has introduced a workaround solution for those affected by this problem. By reducing the overall USB Channel I/O to 34x34 (inputs/outputs), these systems once again have stable operation of the USB recording/playback system of their Series III mixers. Further details regarding this issue can be found in the following Knowledge Base article link below:
StudioLive Series III: USB Audio and Intel Ice Lake 10th Generation Processor Compatibility Issue
Please note that this issue can effect Apple Intel and Silicon based Macs. If you have been advised to use compatibility mode on a Mac then please ensure that you are trying a direct USB connection from the StudioLive to the Mac, no USB hubs. If your Mac only has USB-C ports then please ensure you are using the official Apple USB-C to USB 2 adaptor that was purchased directly from Apple and no where else, they are the only support dongles.
- Compatibility Mode Switch
- There is a switch on the mixer LCD in the Home Menu and in Universal Control under the Settings Tab to switch between Compatibility Mode (34x34 USB) and Native USB Mode (64x64 USB).
From the StudioLive Console, Compatibility mode can be found in the [Home] > "System" menu.
In Universal Control, Compatibility mode can be found in the Device Settings menu.

Digital Patching Options explained.
- In Compatibility Mode, all USB Sends and USB Returns beyond the 34x34 available channels shall be grayed out on the mixer LCD and in Universal Control. When in 34x34 USB I/O Mode, the following Digital Patching will be in place
- USB Send patch:
- Channel 1-32 = USB 1-32
- Main LR = USB 33-34USB Return patch:Channel 1-32 = USB 1-32
- *Channel 33-64 = USB 1-32 (Mirrored)
- Tape Input/Digital Return = 33-34*64S
- USB Return patch:
- Channel 1-32 = USB 1-32
- *Channel 33-64 = USB 1-32 (Mirrored)
- Tape Input/Digital Return = 33-34
- *64S
- For any other channel, patching should default to USB 1
PID explained.
- UC uses a different Product ID number for devices when they are in Compatibility Mode. Because of this, devices in Compatibility Mode will not show up in UC versions older than UC 4.0.
- Interface Mode
- Due to the fact that Compatibility Mode is intended for users having issues with their systems and the routing limitations presented when Compatibility Mode is running, Interface Mode will not be available in Compatibility Mode.
- When a Series III mixer is in Compatibility Mode, the Interface Mode will be grayed out on the mixer LCD and in Universal Control
- If Interface Mode was engaged before switching from 64x64 USB Mode to 34x34 USB Mode, Interface Mode will disengage and will appear grey as in not usable.
- After switching back to 64x64 USB mode from 34x34 USB Mode, the Interface Mode switch will no longer be grayed out, but will not engage again until done manually by the user
