How to Associate Song Files with the Desired Program If You Receive an Error When Trying to Open a File With Fender Studio Pro Open

If you try to double-click a .song file with Fender Studio Pro open and receive an error message that says the program is already running, you will need to set the file association with the desired program.  Below are instructions if you run into this issue.

Windows:

Step 1:  Right-click the .song file that you are trying to open and choose "Open With" from the drop-down menu.

Step 2:  From the "Open With" menu, choose the option for "Choose another app."

Step 3:  If the desired program is listed on the next menu, select it and then choose the button at the bottom listed as "Always."  This will set the file association for .song files to that program as the default and you will no longer receive the error message.

***If the program is not listed in the menu, scroll down on the menu and choose the option for "Choose an app on your pc."  You can then navigate to c:\Program Files\Fender\Studio Pro.exe and choose the "Open" button.  You should now see Studio Pro in the list of applications.  Choose it and click the "Always" button to set Fender Studio Pro as the default app for .song files.

MacOS:

Step 1:  Right-click the .song file that you are trying to open and choose "Open With" from the drop-down menu.

Step 2:  Choose "Other" from the drop-down menu.  This will take you into the Applications folder.

Step 3:  Select "Studio Pro 8" as the application and check the box labeled "Always Open With."  This will set Studio Pro 8 or your selected application as your default app for opening .song files.  You should no longer receive an error when double-clicking a song file with the program already open.

***If some of the icons are not showing up correctly after doing this, please re-start your computer a couple of times.  If the issue persists, below is a command that you can run from the Terminal to resolve the issue.

Open Terminal and copy/paste the following command lines:

sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices.store

sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices*

rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices*

killall Dock

killall Finder

Then log out & back in.

Sometimes that already fixes phantom document icons.
