StudioLive 16.0.2 - Connecting the StudioLive 16.0.2 to Catalina/Big Sur (Firewire Version)

Published Jan 14, 2021, Updated June 21, 2022

Apple M1 CPU Compatibility

Please note, the Firewire StudioLive 16.0.2 is not supported with Apple M1-CPU computers.

Apple has retired their old method of custom device driver support called Kernel Extensions (also referred to as KEXT files) in favor of a different way of supporting connected devices called DriverKit. Firewire KEXT files meant for Intel-CPU machines will not load on Apple M1-CPU machines.

The StudioLive 16.0.2 Firewire is supported using Intel-CPU Mac computers up to macOS 11 Big Sur.

To Connect your Firewire StudioLive 16.0.2 to OSX Catalina and OS 11+ BigSur:

First, Please download Universal Control 3.4+ and install the latest firewire drivers for Catalina/Big Sur compatibility from the following link:

Once you have updated please connect your mixer and update your mixer's firmware to 0.98f, build 219 if not already on the latest firmware. Please update, restart your computer, 16.0.2 and then retest.

The Firewire 400 StudioLive 16.0.2 can be connected with modern Mac computers using a "Bilingual" 400/800 Firewire cable, and Apple-Brand Thunderbolt adapters.

You should now be able to use firewire mixer with your Catalina/Big Sur OS.

If you are still unable to connect then there is the possibility that Apple's security features disabled the drivers on installation. Please see the following article:
