S/PDIF is an abbreviation for Sony/Philips Digital Interface. It is a standard digital audio format developed by Sony and Philips for the digital transfer of audio data. Transferring audio data between two devices digitally avoids the degradation of quality inherent in using digital to analogue devices.

S/PDIF supports sample rates up to 96kHz.
