UC Surface 2.0 works with C++ Runtime Libraries on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. Windows 7 does require Service Pack 1 update as well as the most recent Runtime Library to run, however in our Beta testing we did notice that certain machines might have problems with installing the driver and errors in installing the C++ Runtime Libraries.
Our driver will only pull the most recent Runtime Library for installation, which means that if you have not installed the prior RTL, then your installation will stall at perhaps the following screen below. What would be observable is a installation wizard that hangs and never finishes, forcing you to cancel the wizard or the wizard will prematurely close and give the error message as shown on the above dialog box.
How to solve the problem:
The C++ Runtime Libraries must be run in succession with each other, whereby the earliest version must be installed first, then the latest update, 2015 and above after. This is found in the first Service Pack update for Windows 7 and 8.1 (this should be native in Windows 10).
a.) You must have this installed first (SP1 Full Update download):
This is the package here for Windows 8.1 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919355
b.) THEN you have to install the VC Redist installation here, and the driver can install properly:
NOTE: You may not be able to Temporarily disable the Windows 7/8.1 "Windows Update" service to force the update of Service Pack 1 and the C++ Runtime Library update (make sure you turn it back on after completion).
Opening the Windows Services list
- Open a run box.
services.mscand press return.
To stop a service:
- Select the "Windows Update" service from the list, right-click on the service and select "Stop."
Once the Service has stopped, attempt to install the updates mentioned above. If you are still running into any problems, please Contact Technical Support.
