How To Restore Apple In-App Purchases in Fender Notion / Notion Mobile

To restore in-app purchases (macOS / iOS / iPadOS):

  • Tap the Application Menu icon (the 3 dots at the top, right-hand corner of the screen)
  • Tap Manage Features, and once the dialog is open, scroll down to the bottom
  • Tap 'Restore Purchase' button
  • restore purchases.jpg
  • This will open a prompt from Apple to enter your Apple ID and password
  • Once your Apple ID has been verified, the Manage Feature dialog will update with your current status
    • If you had purchased the Feature Bundle in Notion Mobile / Fender Notion 3.0 or later, then a blue tick will replace the price next to the pack icon (as per the screenshot above)
    • If you had purchased Handwriting or expansion sounds in Notion for iOS v2, then a list of the verified purchases will be then shown in the 'Restored Purchases' dropdown menu below the 'Restore Purchase' button

Once your purchases have been verified:

To install your purchased sounds: go back to the Application Menu (the 3 dots at the top right-hand corner of the screen), then choose "Sound Installation."  Scroll past the 'Core Soundsets' to the 'Expansion Soundsets'. Items you have purchased will show as 'Install' rather than 'Get'.

Note that the soundsets were reorganized in Notion Mobile v3. If you had individual sounds purchased in Notion for iOS v2, these will still be available to you but as part of their parent soundset, which will now be unlocked and ready for download.

To use the Handwriting Tool, if you are a using an Apple Pencil, you should now be able to start writing directly into your score without switching modes. If you are using your finger or a generic stylus then first tap the Handwriting Tool icon in the palette (is as an icon of a pen at the top of the palette). If you cannot see this icon, expand the palette first by tapping the icon at the bottom left of the screen.

Important checks to step through, if you still cannot access previous purchases:

  1. Check you are signed into the device with the same Apple ID with which you made the in-app purchase. This is the number 1 reason why Restore Purchases does not seem to work! To check your previous purchases exist for an Apple ID, follow the instructions here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204088#device
  2. You cannot Restore Purchases that you requested a refund for
  3. You can only restore in-app purchases made on the same platform. i.e. If you purchased the in-app purchase on Android, it will not unlock on Apple devices.
  4. The 'Restore Purchase' feature only unlocks in-app purchases. It does not restore the purchase of the previous paid versions of the app itself. If you have not made any in-app purchases, there is nothing to restore.
  5. Make sure there is a valid and current payment card with sufficient funds attached to the Apple ID. Even though this will not be charged when restoring, if there is an issue with a payment card then it will block any store activity, even restoring previous purchases
  6. Check if you are using a VPN - any mismatch between the country and your payment card country of issue will block any store activity
  7. If you are in Russia, then as of Apr 2026 purchasing in the Apple App Store is not available - this will affect restoring in-app purchases (unless you have an existing balance on your Apple Account) https://support.apple.com/en-us/126891
  8. If you use a non-Gregorian calendar, there was a known issue with restoring purchases that is now fixed by Apple. Please update to iOS 26.5
  9. Make sure that purchases are not locked by parental controls e.g. by Screen Time
  10. If using a family sharing device, make sure that purchases are shared
  11. Sign out / in
    1. Sign out of Apple ID for device in device settings
    2. Restart device
    3. Sign in to Apple ID for device
    4. Go to Notion and hit Restore Purchase.
  12. Make a support ticket with Apple:
